Act 3 Scene 3

  1. I found this entry, though it may have been intended to be, quite amusing. In our post, I took the part of the murderers and I enjoyed seeing other people's portrayals of them. When I read the murder scene, I did not picture it this way, but found it comically relieving with the high pitched shrieks. I liked the interpretation with the strobe light to add to the eeriness in the woods, and how the lights ceased when one of the murderers questions, "Who did strike out the light" (3.3.21). The lost of the light represents the loss of the good Banquo, though he did think thoughts similar to Macbeth, he never acted on them. The group created an entertaining representation of this scene, and helped me see the loss of Banquo more clearly.

  2. I agree with Caroline this entry was highly entertaining as they managed to portray the scene in both a serious yet comical way. The idea of the scene being played out at night added a dark undertone as the murderers were clearly on their way to murder Banquo. I liked how they used red streamers in the scene of Banquo’s death as the strobe light managed to make it appear as if real blood was spewing out from the body. I also liked how their interpretation of the scene was a modern one and had the murderers dressed up all in black in order to camouflage themselves in the background. This really seemed to add an emphasis on what it was that they were doing, besides the obvious use of quotes. Having the chance to see this scene played out allowed me to understand that we all picture the acts to occur in different ways and although this was not how I pictured it exactly, I definitely appreciated it a lot more.

  3. As stated above this piece was both serious and comical adding to the effect of the scene. When I first read the scene I pictured something very serious and it was nice to see it portrayed in a more light hearted manner. The effects of the strobe lights and the amount of streamers also added to the effectiveness of the scene in different ways. The strobe lights added to the effect of the murder as a whole, adding some suspense. Also using the streamers were a good way to add blood to the scene when the original plan that you guys had didn't work.

By using the original text and making the setting more modern also added to the piece as a whole. This made me see more clearly what the words meant and what the loss of a character by Macbeth's hand was like and the haunting feeling that Macbeth has over himself. The group overall created and presented a comical yet serious representation of the scene, helping me to understand what other aspects could not.
